Beloved Playa Mujeres

Mexico · Playa Mujeres / Cancun · Adults-only · Swim-up suites

Boutique, couples-only all-inclusive in the gated Playa Mujeres enclave north of Cancún — at 109 suites, the small, romance-first alternative to the larger resorts nearby. Fourteen swim-up suites open onto the pool, more than forty add a private plunge pool, and every suite has an in-room jacuzzi for two.

Beloved Playa Mujeres is in the directory because almost half of its 109 suites have private water of their own, and the whole property is small enough that the water is the point rather than a buried upgrade. This is a couples-only, adults-only all-inclusive — confirmed on both counts — run under The Excellence Collection, and at 109 suites it’s a fraction of the size of the big resorts in the same gated enclave.

The suite mix is where the homework pays off. The entry-level Junior Suites already include a round in-room jacuzzi for two; from there the categories scale through fourteen Swim-Up Suites sited along the pools, the Casita Suites with Private Pool (including beachfront versions), the two-story casitas and Terrace Suites with Plunge Pool, and the 2,873-square-foot Penthouse Suite with Plunge Pool, up to the single Owner’s Suite. Be honest with yourself about the swim-up category specifically: sources conflict on whether the terrace steps straight into the water or whether a shared stone pathway runs between your loungers and the pool everyone uses. If true step-off-the-deck access matters, the private-pool casitas and plunge-pool terraces are the surer bet — your water is genuinely yours, no pathway in between.

The setting is the gated Playa Mujeres community north of Cancún, low-density and quiet, roughly 40 minutes from Cancún International (CUN). We book USA Transfers for the drive. The trade-off of that location is real: you’re a fair distance from the Hotel Zone’s restaurants, shopping, and nightlife, so plan to stay put.

Dining runs through four à la carte restaurants with no reservations required, plus 24-hour room service, all covered along with premium liquor. Le Bisou is the indoor French room that handles breakfast and à la carte French dinners; Lupita is the dinner-only steakhouse; La Isla Grill sits on the beach doing Italian with a Mexican accent; and the open-air, palapa-style El Mar runs a wood oven for pizza. The Beloved Spa adds an Aqua Viva hydrotherapy circuit alongside a full treatment menu and fitness center.

A few caveats candid reviews repeat. The bathroom layouts draw the most comment — open sightlines and mirrors with little wall behind them mean privacy between two people is thin, which most couples find a non-issue and a few don’t. Within the casita buildings, certain rooms (Tierna and Carinosa are named) back onto restaurant infrastructure or sit close to a walkway, so the room you’re assigned matters; ask, or request to see it before settling in. Nighttime is low-key by design: there are daytime activities and live music, but no nightly shows and nothing resembling a disco. And while this is a quiet couples resort, it’s also a popular wedding venue, so the occasional larger party turns up in the restaurants and pool areas. Mosquitoes at sundown earn a mention too.

This is the small, romance-first choice in Playa Mujeres — the boutique alternative when a private plunge pool and an intimate, suite-forward stay matter more to you than a sprawling amenity roster or a buzzing nightlife scene. If you want big resort energy, multiple pools to wander, and plenty to do after dark, the larger properties next door will suit you better.
