Excellence Oyster Bay is in the directory because of its setting: an adults-only Excellence Collection resort built across a private peninsula near Falmouth, with the open Caribbean on one side and a mangrove-fringed lagoon that connects to Glistening Waters — one of the world’s handful of bioluminescent bays — on the other. Water on more than one side, no neighboring resorts, and a sense of containment most Jamaica all-inclusives can’t offer.

A word on the water-in-room categories, because the honest version matters here. This isn’t a swim-up-channel property in the Sandals sense — there’s a swim-up bar at the rooftop pool, but the suites don’t open onto a shared swim channel. What you actually get is your own water. The entry point for that is the Junior Suite with Plunge Pool, a private plunge pool set into the terrace; the Junior Suite with Private Pool scales that up to a larger pool you can swim a stroke or two in. The Excellence Club tier layers on rooftop-terrace versions, two members-only oceanfront pools, and two club-only restaurants. At the top, the Beach House Suite with Plunge Pool sits steps from the sand, and the standalone Beach Villa with Private Pool — roughly 1,500 square feet — is the most private water on property. Five pools in all, including a rooftop pool.

The scale is real: around 315 suites, all-suite, with an ongoing expansion adding more rooms and villas. The transfer is one of the genuinely easy ones in Jamaica — roughly 40 minutes from Sangster International in Montego Bay, where most international flights land, no two-hour haul to the far coast.

Dining runs to ten restaurants with no reservations and no dress-up theatrics. The Lobster House does seafood, Chez Isabelle the French room, Oregano the Italian, Spice an Asian kitchen, plus The Grill, Caribbean Grove, The Kitchen Table buffet, and an open-air Jerk Hut for the Jamaican barbecue. The drinks program is a quiet strength — premium spirits and cocktails built with fresh fruit and herbs rather than syrups — and the Miilé Spa is a recurring highlight in reviews.

Now the caveat candid reviews repeat, and it’s the one to settle before booking: the beach is real white sand and the water is calm and vendor-free, but the sea itself is not a clean sandy-bottom swim. Seagrass has grown into the shallows along much of the peninsula, so wading out means picking through it to reach clear pockets, and it can’t simply be raked away because it’s rooted in the bottom. Grounds crews clear what washes ashore, and the stretch in front of the main pool swims better than the Excellence Club end — but if your picture of a Caribbean beach is walking straight into clear water off the sand, set expectations or plan to swim in the pools. The lagoon side delivers a different payoff: the resort runs night excursions from its own pier into Glistening Waters, where the water glows blue-green around you. It’s weather- and moon-dependent, and best on dark, calm nights.

Come for the private-pool suites, the painless airport transfer, and a peninsula that genuinely stands apart from the Jamaica beach strip. Look elsewhere if a swimmable sandy sea is non-negotiable, or if you specifically wanted a step-off-the-terrace swim-up channel — that’s not the water this resort is built around.
