Excellence Punta Cana

Dominican Republic · Punta Cana · Adults-only · Swim-up suites

Adults-only all-inclusive on a quiet golden-sand stretch of Uvero Alto, north of the Bávaro strip, with four pools, swim-up suites, and Terrace Suites that step up to ocean-front plunge pools.

Excellence Punta Cana earns its directory spot on the range of ways it puts water at your door — a swim-up suite into shared pools, a private plunge pool on your own terrace, or a rooftop terrace several floors up — all of it adults-only and all-suite. That spread, on a quiet golden-sand stretch rather than the crowded Bávaro strip, is the case.

The water-in-the-room lineup is where you make your real decision. The entry point is the Junior Swim-Up Suite, a ground-floor suite with a furnished terrace and garden that steps directly into the resort’s tropical swimming pools — so the access is shared pool, not your own water. If you want the water contained to your patio, the Junior Suite with Private Pool and the larger Terrace Suite with Plunge Pool Ocean Front (1,000 square feet, an ocean-front plunge pool) keep it private. The Honeymoon Suite with Rooftop Terrace Ocean Front trades the swim-up energy for elevation and a private rooftop. Each of these also exists in an Excellence Club version, which adds a private lounge, a separate club beach area, two club-only pools, and access to the Magna restaurant — worth weighing, though more than one guest has found the club perks underwhelming relative to the upcharge, so price the gap before committing.

Beyond the suites, the property runs four main pools through the grounds — two of them reserved for Excellence Club — including a lazy river and a cascade pool with hydrotherapy jets. This is a large resort: 461 suites spread across a palm grove in Uvero Alto, roughly 45 to 55 minutes north of Punta Cana International. There’s no complimentary shuttle on a standard booking, so arrange the transfer in advance rather than at arrivals.

Dining spans eleven restaurants, none requiring a surcharge. Chez Isabelle handles French and is the one most reviewers single out as the strongest kitchen on property. The Lobster House sits on a palapa bridge over the river pool, which is the most scenic seat at the resort. Agave does Mexican and Tex-Mex, Spice covers Pan-Asian with a sushi bar and teppanyaki, Las Olas is the beachside grill and wood-oven pizza spot, and The Kitchen Table is the breakfast and lunch buffet. Magna, the standout, is gated behind Excellence Club.

A few honest caveats reviews repeat. Food is the divisive one: the breadth is real, but a meaningful share of guests find it merely fine — pre-plated dishes that resist substitutions, thin vegetable sides, a few survive-on-the-pizza stretches — even as others rave. The rooms are comfortable but read a bit dated; if you want ultra-modern, this isn’t it. The beach is genuinely lovely, but it’s Uvero Alto, so sargassum seaweed turns up seasonally and the staff clear it each morning rather than it never appearing. Service at the pool and beach can lag at peak lunch hours, and dinner enforces a dress code — no shorts, t-shirts, or flip-flops — which suits some guests and chafes others.

Come for the spread of water options and a quiet, palm-grove setting away from the strip, and choose your suite by which water you actually want closest. Look elsewhere if you’re after a party scene, cutting-edge rooms, or a resort where the food is the headline rather than the setting.
