Excellence Riviera Cancun sits in the Puerto Morelos area on the northern edge of the Riviera Maya, roughly 30 minutes south of Cancún International Airport. The location is a useful middle ground — close enough to the airport that the transfer doesn’t eat half a day, far enough south that you’re in the quieter Riviera Maya rather than the active Hotel Zone.

The property is one of the longer-tenured Excellence resorts (it opened in the early 2000s) and has been refreshed multiple times since. The water experience runs across multiple pools — the Two Lagoons section is the property’s signature, with swim-up rooms set along the channel-style pools that thread through the grounds.

The swim-up rooms here don’t connect directly to the patio — the channel-style pool runs alongside the suite cluster with a few steps between your terrace and the water, not the swim-straight-out-from-bed setup you get at an Excellence Playa Mujeres or an El Dorado Seaside. More social, more scenic — but if you’re picturing the “private cocoon” version of swim-up, this isn’t it. Worth knowing before you book.

The all-inclusive program covers the standard Excellence Collection dining lineup — French, Italian, Asian, modern Mexican, and beachfront seafood — plus the Miilé Spa hydrotherapy circuit. The Lobster House is a recurring favorite in reviews.

One thing worth knowing before you book: this stretch of the Riviera Maya coastline can see seasonal seaweed (sargassum) during late spring and summer. The property runs daily beach grooming and maintains an offshore barrier, but variable beach quality is a structural feature of the coastline, not the resort. If a pristine swimmable shore is the top criterion, plan around the season or weight the on-property pools more heavily in your itinerary.
