Sandals Negril

Sandals Negril is in the Jet and Swim directory because it puts swim-up butler suites on the widest, best-sanded stretch of Seven Mile Beach — and because it is one of the few Sandals in Jamaica you can actually book this season. As with every Sandals this is couples-only, two adults traveling together, which lands in the same kid-free place as adults-only.

The room to understand is the Sundowner Swim up Beachfront One Bedroom Butler Suite, ground floor of the Sundowner building, where the patio drops on a zero entry into the Crystal Lagoon pool with the sand a few steps past it. Sandals sold this for years as the Swim-up Crystal Lagoon Beachfront Butler Suite and its own blog still uses that name, so search both. Be clear-eyed about the water, though, because Sandals is: it calls the access semi-private, and the Crystal Lagoon is a named pool on the resort map with loungers set along it, not a private channel behind a row of terraces. Guests report non-suite guests swimming past, and that the pool looks directly into the rooms. The Bamboo Grove Swim-up Club Suite is the same idea with fewer eyes on it, opening onto a separate, smaller zero-entry pool at the newer building. If you would rather the water were nobody else’s, the Palm Grove Honeymoon One Bedroom Butler Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary gives you a walled garden with a plunge pool and an outdoor shower, and the Bamboo Grove One-Bedroom Skypool Butler Suite puts a private infinity pool on a third-floor balcony, with a fourth-floor version adding a roof terrace.

One trap before you book: the Sundowner Beachfront Penthouse sits directly above the swim-ups and overlooks the same lagoon without touching it. Book the category by its full name rather than by the words “Crystal Lagoon,” or you can pay up for a balcony view of the water you meant to step into.

The property is small and flat — around 226 rooms across twelve acres and roughly 1,700 feet of beachfront, walkable end to end, the precise opposite of the hillside-and-stairs problem at Sandals Dunn’s River. The beach is the real differentiator, and on a Jamaica list where the sand is usually the disappointment that counts for a lot: powder-soft, calm water, a long double row of loungers under palapas, a minute from the lobby. Dining runs to eight restaurants, with Bayside doing open-air Mediterranean without a reservation, Barefoot by the Sea putting your feet in the sand, and Perla running until six in the morning.

The caveats are specific. The airport transfer is the big one and Sandals understates it — its checklist says sixty minutes, its own factsheet an hour and fifteen, and guests consistently report ninety. Hurricane Melissa accelerated Negril’s long-running beach erosion, and 2026 guests describe exposed pipe and a noticeably shallower beach: still the best sand here, and narrower than the photographs. The beach is public, so vendors come by. The room stock is two-tier — Bamboo Grove and the renovated suites are excellent, the older categories read dated with maintenance misses, and the cheap garden-view rooms sit near the road and catch traffic noise. Three pools is modest for a Sandals. And unlike the Montego Bay and Ocho Rios properties there is no walk-across sister resort: this is the only Sandals in Negril, and Beaches Negril next door is the family brand, not an exchange partner.

Come for a swim-up patio on the best beach in Jamaica’s adults-only set, and book Sundowner or Bamboo Grove by name. Look elsewhere if you want your water to yourself, a short transfer from Montego Bay, or the pool spectacle the newer Sandals are built around.
