Anantara Veli Maldives Resort
Adults-only private island resort with 67 overwater villas, 35 minutes by speedboat from Malé. One of the Maldives' most consistently praised romantic escapes.
Anantara Veli is in the Jet & Swim directory because it is one of the rare Maldives properties where adults-only isn’t a wing or a floor category — it’s the entire island. We haven’t stayed here personally; the inclusion is an editorial call based on the overwater-first room design, the consistently excellent reviews, and the recent full property refresh.
Anantara Veli sits on its own private island in the South Malé Atoll, 35 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport — close enough to be accessible, far enough to feel genuinely removed. The island is compact and intentional, with 67 villas and no families in sight.
The recent renovation rebuilt the property from the inside out: new villas, new dining concepts, a new spa, and a new wellness program. Every villa category is overwater or ocean-facing — even the entry-level rooms are suspended above the lagoon. Superior villas step up to a private plunge pool. The Wellness Villas take it further, with light, scent, and sound therapy built into the room itself, plus a consultation with an in-house nutritionist and daily wellness programming included in the rate.
The dining setup is one of the more generous in this price range. Guests have dine-around access across Anantara Veli and its sister property Anantara Dhigu next door, reached by a five-minute boat ride — effectively giving you seven restaurants to choose from without leaving the resort ecosystem. The Thai restaurant Baan Huraa and the overwater grill Sea.Fire.Salt are consistently the standouts.
The house reef is snorkelable directly from the water’s edge — no excursion required. The overwater spa has treatment rooms with glass floor panels above the lagoon. The spa also has an overwater infinity pool.
Transfer logistics: speedboat service runs all day between Velana International Airport and the resort. The 35-minute ride is part of the arrival experience, not an inconvenience.
For Jet & Swim readers: Anantara Veli is the Maldives entry point that makes the most sense for adults who want a verified, well-reviewed overwater experience without gambling on a remote atoll property. The sister-island dining access adds real value, and the adults-only policy is unconditional — not a villa category restriction.
