Hurawalhi Island Resort

Maldives · Lhaviyani Atoll · Adults-only · Overwater bungalows

Adults-only resort on a private coral island in the Lhaviyani Atoll, home to the world's largest all-glass underwater restaurant. 40 minutes by seaplane from Malé.

Hurawalhi is in the Jet & Swim directory because it is genuinely, unconditionally adults-only — 90 villas, one island, no exceptions — and because 5.8 Undersea is one of the most singular dining experiences available at any resort anywhere. We haven’t stayed here personally; the inclusion is an editorial call based on the property’s track record and the strength of the experience reviews.

Hurawalhi sits in the Lhaviyani Atoll on its own private coral island, reached by a 40-minute seaplane transfer from Malé. Seaplanes operate only during daylight hours, so guests arriving on late-night international flights typically overnight in Malé before transferring — worth planning for.

The 90 villas split into two categories: beach and overwater, each available with or without a private infinity pool. The layouts are identical inside regardless of location — clean, modern, and comfortable, if not the most architecturally dramatic in the Maldives. The draw is the setting and the atmosphere, not the room design itself. Despite 90 villas, the adults-only policy keeps the island remarkably quiet — reviewers consistently note that even at high occupancy it feels half-full.

The real story at Hurawalhi is the dining. 5.8 Undersea — named for its depth below the lagoon surface — is the world’s largest all-glass underwater restaurant, and the food is genuinely at the level the setting demands. Book it for the first or second night before word gets around that tables go fast. Beyond 5.8, Kashibo is an elegant overwater Asian restaurant where the marine life visible from the edge tables is itself worth the visit, and the all-inclusive package is one of the more comprehensive in the Maldives — sunset cruises, daily minibar, and non-motorized water sports all included.

The house reef snorkeling is strong for marine life — turtles, reef sharks, and rays are regularly spotted — though some coral bleaching has affected the reef structure itself. The overwater spa, gym, and a surprisingly well-stocked games room round out the on-island experience.

For Jet & Swim readers: Hurawalhi is the right pick if you want the Maldives overwater experience paired with something genuinely unique — 5.8 Undersea is the kind of dinner that becomes the thing you tell people about when you get home. The all-inclusive packaging at this price point is also stronger than most.
